CARICOM Council for Foreign and Community Relations (COFCOR) currently happening in St. Kitts and Nevis

The Twenty-Eighth Regular Meeting of the Council for Foreign and Community Relations (COFCOR) is being held SKN and it ends on Friday May 9th.

The meeting gathers regional foreign ministers of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) to discuss prevalent matters of regional and international interest.

SKN’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Dr. Denzil Douglas, has assumed Chairmanship of the Council for Foreign and Community Relations (COFCOR) for one year. He replaces the outgoing chair, Dr. Vince Henderson, Foreign Minister of the Commonwealth of Dominica.

The meeting facilitates discussions with representatives of the governments of Mexico, the Philippines, Germany, and Portugal to diversify Caribbean partnerships.

Other matters being discussed include practical solutions to the situation in Haiti, the prevention and control and non-communicable diseases, other sustainable development goals, and also policy implications regarding CARICOM enlargement, especially given the Dominican Republic’s application for associate membership.

Foreign Minister Douglas stated these discussions: “are critical for the future of our CARICOM. But the future of CARICOM could not be seen in a positive light without delving more deeply into the Haitian crisis. We need to come out of this meeting with some practical solutions”.
