Citizens and residents can expect a change in gas prices, “in the following days”, says Gov’t spokesperson
When will the Prime Minister’s announcement on gas prices reduction take effect?
On Apr. 14th, PM the Hon. Dr. Terrance Drew, announced relief measures to ease the cost of living for citizens and residents across St. Kitts & Nevis. The measures come as SKN is experiencing the effects of the Middle East conflict.
He stated that effective Apr. 20th 2026, the Federal Government will implement several measures. Among them, was the reduction of the excise tax on gasoline from EC $1.95 per gallon to EC $0.98 cents per gallon (50 percent) until July 31st 2026 in the first instance.
What does this mean for SKN’s residents and citizens? Lower fuel costs for every driver, household and small business. However, the VONNEWSLINE noted that there has not been any change as of Apr. 21st.
Additionally, a spokesperson for the Federal Government told the VONNEWSLINE that “the change is not immediate, nor instantaneous”. The public can expect a change in gas prices as early as Wednesday or “in the following days”.
