CMO’s Office issues public advisory on rising temperatures

The Office of the Chief Medical Officer has issued an urgent health advisory in response to the recent spike in maximum temperatures recorded at the Meteorological Office in St. Kitts over the past three days.

With extremely warm days experiencing temperatures ranging from 31.4°C to 31.8°C, and an expected continuation of this trend through the week, the Office emphasizes the importance of taking immediate precautions to protect against the adverse effects of these high atmospheric temperatures.

As such, here are some health tips for the public: stay Indoors: Limit outdoor activities and stay indoors as much as possible, especially between the hours of 11:00 am to 2:00 pm, wear protective gears, stay hydrated: increase your intake of water throughout the day and care for vulnerable individuals.

“The recent surge in temperatures presents a significant risk to public health, particularly for the elderly, young children, and those with pre-existing health conditions,” states Chief Medical Officer, Dr. Hazel Laws.

The Ministry of Health through the Office of the Chief Medical Officer will continue to monitor the situation closely and provide updates as necessary
