Construction of the Greenhouse Village at Brotherson Estate, St. Kitts, “nears completion”. That’s the word from Minister of Agriculture in St. Kitts, Hon. Samal Duggins.
The agriculture initiative is designed to help farmers produce crops consistently despite drought, extreme heat, heavy rainfall and the increasingly unpredictable effects of climate change.
It is the Federal Government’s hope that it will increase local food production while creating new opportunities for farmers and supporting employment within the sector.
Mr. Duggins stated that the Greenhouse Village will be the largest greenhouse project in the Eastern Caribbean. According to the Agriculture Minister, each greenhouse has the potential to generate between EC$180,000 and EC$200,000 annually, with the Greenhouse Village Cooperative expected to contribute millions of dollars to the national economy through domestic sales and regional exports.
