A once-plain wall on Main Street in Charlestown, Nevis, has been transformed into a vibrant celebration of art and national identity with the completion of a mural called Floral Elegance. Created by students of the Charlestown Secondary School Art Department under the guidance of Art Teacher, Ms. Ashira Hanley, the mural showcases the brilliant blossoms of the Flamboyant or Poinciana tree, the national flower of St. Kitts and Nevis, surrounded by green foliage.
The project was a collaborative effort between the St. Kitts Nevis Anguilla Trading and Development Company Limited (TDC), The Caribbean Foundation for Children and the Charlestown Secondary School. It provided students with the opportunity to apply their artistic talents beyond the classroom while making a lasting contribution to the beautification of their community.
TDC supported the initiative by providing paint and painting supplies, reinforcing its commitment to youth development, arts education and cultural advancement. The Caribbean Foundation for Children also commended the partnership, noting that such collaborations create meaningful opportunities for young artists while strengthening community pride.
Now complete, Floral Elegance stands as a lasting tribute to creativity, collaboration and the enduring beauty of St. Kitts and Nevis’ national flower.
