The Sugar Mas 53 Grand Parade, that took place on January 1st, 2025, featured for the first time, “Culture on Wheels”, where wheel chair users had the chance to be in costume, and participate. It was a collaboration between the Department of Creative Economy – St. Kitts, and the St. Kitts and Nevis Association of Persons with Disabilities (SKNAPD).
Marcia Jeffers, Dance Specialist at the department, and, Stanley Carey, of the Tabernacle Ancestral Mummies created and executed the initiative, with intent to promote inclusivity of persons with disabilities.
Three members of the SKNAPD participated, they were: the Vice President and Calypsonian, the Awesome Navigator, Joseph Bergan, Shanika Percival, and Shakeem Walters. Persons interested in “Culture on Wheels” are asked to contact Marcia Jeffers at 763-9133.
