Ms. Dhakiya Liburd and Ms. Asher Walters-Hanley were on Friday, July 30th, presented with Scholarships sponsored by the Medical University of the Americas and Nevis Island Administration to pursue undergraduate degrees at regional universities.

The award ceremony was held at the Ministry of Gender Affairs conference room.
Ms. Liburd, presently a teacher with the Ministry of Education, will pursue a degree in Biology at the University of the Virgin Islands, while Ms. Walters-Hanley, a lab technician at the Alexandra Hospital, will pursue a degree in Diagnostic Imaging Radiology at the University of the West Indies, Mona Campus.
Present at the award ceremony was Junior Minister of Health and Gender Affairs, the Hon. Hazel Brandy Williams; Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Health and Gender Affairs, Ms. Shelisa Clark; and Associate Dean for the MUA Nevis Campus, Dr. Ralph Crum who congratulated the awardees.
According to Junior Minster Brandy-Williams 20 individuals have benefitted from the fully-funded scholarship since its inception.
