Dr. Julius Garvey and SKN dignitaries trace steps of Rt. Excellent Marcus Garvey
The government of St. Kitts and Nevis welcomed Dr. Julius Garvey, son of the legendary Pan-Africanist Rt. Excellent Marcus Mosiah Garvey, to the federation on Sunday August 3rd. Dr. Garvey was welcomed by Deputy Prime Minister Hon. Dr. Geoffrey Hanley in St. Kitts and by Premier of Nevis, Hon. Mark Brantley on Nevis.
Additionally, (yesterday) Wednesday, August 6th, Remembrance Ceremonies were held in an effort to retrace the historic footsteps of Marcus Garvey from Pump Bay, Fig Tree to the Mutual Improvement Society Building on Market Street in St. Kitts where he addressed the people in 1937.
Among those in attendance were Her Excellency the Governor General, Dame Marcella Liburd; Prime Minister, the Hon. Dr. Terrance Drew; and other esteemed members of the Federal Cabinet, as well as the Secretary General of the St. Kitts-Nevis National Commission for UNESCO, H.E. Nerys Dockery. Members of the Rastafarian community, along with local residents.
A statement from the federal government said “This is a moment of reflection, pride, and unity that you won’t want to miss. Let’s honour our shared history and celebrate the enduring legacy of Marcus Garvey together”.
