An election petition refers to the procedure for challenging the results of a Parliamentary election. In summary, it challenged the results of the Nevis #2 (St. John’s Parish) seat in the December 12th 2022 Nevis Island Assembly Election, in which CCM won 3 of the 5 seats, while NRP won 2 seats.

Dr. Bartlette, who ran as a Candidate on NRP’s ticket for Nevis #2 (St. John’s Parish), lost to the incumbent CCM’s Mr. Brantley, by 147 votes.

High Court Judge Justice Patrick Thompson Jr., in the end, explained that for Dr. Bartlette’s petition, because the petition was not properly filed (filed on January 6th 2023) by the stipulated time (21 days) “this court is compelled to find that Dr. Bartlette’s petition is struck out for non-compliance” and therefore it was dismissed. Furthermore, the judge ruled that the petitioner shall pay costs to the respondent, such costs to be assessed by the court.
