Wednesday February 15th was the date that Justice Patrick Thompson heard strike out applications at the High Court on Nevis, filed by respondents, regarding the Election Petition that Members of the Nevis Reformation Party (NRP) filed, challenging the results of the Dec. 12th , 2022 Nevis Island Assembly Election.

A strike out application is an application asking the Court to strike out all or part of a pleading.

CCM won 3 of the 5 seats in the election, NRP won 2 seats. The petitions are to challenge the results of the Nevis #1 (St. Paul’s) and Nevis #2 (St. John’s) seats, in the Dec. 12th 2022 Nevis Island Assembly Election.

NRP’s Jaedee Caines contested the Nevis 1 (St. Paul’s Parish) seat and Dr. Patricia Bartlette, who contested the Nevis 2 (St. John’s Parish) lost to the incumbents Concerned Citizens Movement’s (CCM) Spencer Brand and Premier Mark Brantley, by 27 votes and 147 votes, respectively.

The political parties have told the VONNEWSLINE in recent times, that there were “irregularities” in the election, according to NRP but CCM has maintained that the elections “were free and fair”.
