EU-Backed Initiative Drives School Nutrition Reform in St. Kitts and Nevis

Government officials, regional agencies and civil society representatives gathered in Frigate Bay on February 10th to 11th, 2026, to advance plans for a national School Nutrition Policy in St. Kitts and Nevis.

The two-day conference, held at the St. Kitts Marriott Resort, was convened by the Ministry of Health under the European Union–funded EUCAN Project, Nourishing the Future Together. The forum united stakeholders from the health, education, agriculture and development sectors to chart a coordinated approach to improving the nutritional quality of school food environments.

Opening the event, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Education, Dr. Geoffrey Hanley, alongside Minister of Agriculture Samal Duggins, reaffirmed the government’s commitment to promoting student wellness through healthier food systems.

Permanent Secretary, Curtis Martin highlighted the importance of sound legislation and intersectoral collaboration, while Nutrition Surveillance Coordinator, Latoya Matthew-Duncan called for practical implementation strategies and stronger integration of local agriculture into school feeding programmes.
