Farmers in St. Kitts receive 1000-gallon Water Tanks from Ministry of Agriculture to ease Water Woes

Due to the ongoing water shortage, the Ministry of Agriculture in St. Kitts has distributed several one-thousand-gallon water tanks to impacted farmers on the island.

This was done to provide relief to farmers and ensure sustainable crop production during the ongoing water shortage.

According to a notice issued by the St. Kitts Water Department on July 1st “for the past three months we have received an average of about 1 inch of rainfall each month. This has significantly reduced the water that is available for distribution.”

The notice went on to advise all customers (including farmers) to practice water conservation methods.

Farmers have expressed their gratitude towards the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Marine Resources after recently receiving the tanks to ease their challenges caused by the water shortage.

Upon installing the new tanks, some of the farmers in St. Kitts spoke on how the initiative has helped ensure their crop production:

One farmer also spoke about the need to make food security a number one priority in the Federation.
