Federal Government Upgrades Insurance Plan with Higher Coverage and New Benefits

Civil servants in St. Kitts and Nevis are now benefiting from a significantly expanded government health insurance programme, which took effect December 1st, 2025. Announced during the budget debate by the PM and Minister of Finance, Dr. Terrance Drew, the revised policy increases coverage for active government employees from $750,000 under the previous triennial (3 year plan) to $1 million in lifetime health insurance coverage.
Government officials say the insurance remains free for all active civil servants, with benefits covering maternity, dental, vision and general medical care. The updated plan also introduces hearing aid coverage, enhanced mental health and substance-abuse treatment, as well as expanded cancer treatment benefits. There is also a provision for preventive care. Head of the Civil Service, Thelma Richards explains:
Dependents, including spouses and children, may also be added to the policy for a small fee. Children are eligible from six months to age 19, or up to age 25 if enrolled in school. This reform was made for retirees:
