Federal Gov’t comes in for commendations following update on NHI scheme

The Federal Government has received commendations following the Prime Minister’s announcement earlier this month, that the Federal Government in collaboration with PAHO and UWI-St. Augustine campus, is “in the process” of establishing a National Health Insurance (NHI) scheme.

 

 

 

Prime Minister Dr. Terrance Drew made the announcement during his 2023 Global Week for Action on NCDs, which is annually in September.

 

 

 

Non-communicable diseases (NCDs) such as cancers, diabetes, mental health conditions and many others, affect us all. Universal Health Coverage (UHC), which is locally called National Health Insurance, is the right to every human being able to access healthcare, irrespective of their ability to pay.

 

 

 

According to Community Advisor/Activist, Samuel Williams, back in 2005 and 2017, he made the plea for NHI. As such, he gave this comment to the VONNEWSLINE:
