Federal Minister of ICT first Woman to Chair the ECTEL Council of Ministers
Federal Minister of Information and Communications Technology (ICT) et. al, the Hon. Akilah Byron-Nisbett, is the first woman to sit on the Council of Ministers for the Eastern Caribbean Telecommunications Authority (ECTEL).
ECTEL is the regulatory body for telecommunications in its Member States.
They are: the Commonwealth of Dominica, Grenada, St. Kitts and Nevis, St. Lucia, St. Vincent and the Grenadines.
It is made up of three components – a Council of Ministers, a Regional Directorate and a National Telecommunications Regulatory Commission (NTRC) in each Member State.
Her tenure runs from October 2020 to September 30th 2021.

ECTEL was established on May 4th, 2000 by a Treaty signed in St. George’s, Grenada by the Governments of five Eastern Caribbean States – Commonwealths of Dominica, Grenada, St. Kitts and Nevis, St. Lucia, St. Vincent and the Grenadines.
