Federal Minister of Agriculture, Samal Duggins outlined plans for the development of the medicinal cannabis sector as part of the government’s 2026 agenda, emphasizing a cautious and responsible approach.
Although the legislative framework was already in place, community consultations revealed challenges, including unclear definitions for traditional farmers and other concerns. Rather than accelerating implementation, authorities prioritized safeguarding international banking relationships and minimizing legal and economic risks. The Authority’s board has refined policies and operations.
Looking ahead Duggins announced a new initiative, the first SKN Cannabis Cup. This is what it entails:
Hon. Samal Duggins. Global expert Dr. Marshall Emmanuel will support training, standards, and certification, positioning the industry for sustainable growth. Other plans include launching an official website to provide guidance and useful information, rolling out a national public education campaign.
