A fire has destroyed two popular bars in St. Kitts. A police spokesperson told the VONNEWSLINE that the fire occurred at Zanzi Bar on the Frigate Bay Strip alias “The Strip”, between 12am and 12:30am Tuesday Oct. 21st.

Fire officers from St. Kitts-Nevis Fire & Rescue Servies (SKNFRS) took five hours to extinguish the blaze, but according to lawmen, Zanzi Bar and a neighbouring establishment, Cathy’s Bar, were completely destroyed.

The big question is: “was it arson-related?” The VONNEWSLINE spoke with the Fire Chief, Mr. Rommel Williams, who stated that the cause of fire “has not yet been determined, as the investigation continues.”

Owner of Cathy’s Bar, Catherine Williams clarified on social media that the fire originated at Zanzi’s before spreading and consuming her property. She expressed her sadness and said “as a result, my complete establishment was demolished by the blaze. A total loss to me.” It is understood that she served patrons on “The Strip” for over 20 years.

Zanzi’s Bar mentioned in a notice that “no one was harmed” and “they are cooperating fully with the investigation into the cause”.
