Fish Pot Making Workshop Promotes Community and Sustainability
The Department of Marine Resources in St. Kitts recently hosted a Fish Pot Making Workshop as part of activities to mark World Food Day 2025.
Fisheries Assistant, Ms. Alanni Polanco spoke about the aim of the Workshop:
The event was facilitated by Mr. Ray Liddie, a member of the National Fisherfolk Organization and the Sandy Point Fisherfolk Cooperative, with practical demonstrations led by Mr. Kharim Saddler, Head of the Extension Unit.
Participants learned how to install biodegradable fish pot panels designed to prevent Ghost Fishing and protect marine life.
Further, Ms. Polanco revealed that the initiative will continue on Tuesday October 21st from 5:30 p.m. at the Basseterre Ball Court in Figtree, St. Kitts, giving participants the opportunity to complete their fish pots. She also extended an invitation to the public with these words.
