Fisheries Sector makes over 19M in revenue – highest figure within the last 10 years
In 2024, the Fisheries Sector in St. Kitts and Nevis experienced substantial increases in production, resulting in the highest recorded revenue figure within the last 10 years of $19.6M, an increase of $4.1M, compared to $15.5M in 2023.
The most significant growths took place in Reef and Demersal Fishery, which pushed major expansion of the industry. There was a 35.4% increase in total catch of 1,567,620 pounds in 2024 compared to 1,157,234 in the previous year.
This growth is due to a climb in Reef and Demersal Fishery Landings of 60.2%. Landings rose from just 757,143 pounds in 2023 to 1,212,687 pounds in 2024.
This development accounts for 77% (that is EC$15,133,117) of the total fisheries revenue of precisely EC$19,658,773.
Federal Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Marine Resources, Hon. Samal Duggins, commended the work of the government and essential role of the Department of Marine Resources for its tremendous growth.
He stated, “Our fisherfolk have shown unmatched dedication, and as a government, we have stood beside them, providing resources, training, and infrastructure to help them thrive.”
