Five Honored at Unsung Heroes Award Ceremony hosted by Community Development Department

As part of the annual St. Christopher and Nevis Independence celebrations, the Department of Community Development on Nevis recently hosted the Unsung Heroes Award Ceremony. It was an initiative to honour and recognize those who work quietly, consistently, and selflessly behind the scenes to strengthen their communities.

Among this year’s honorees is Mr. Joseph “Joe” Claxton of Bath Village, whose devotion to preserving Nevisian heritage through dance, music, and mentorship has kept traditions like the Lancers and cakewalks alive. Mr. Orin Perkins, a trusted name in pharmaceuticals on the island, has served for decades with compassion and care, becoming a source of clarity and comfort to many.

Ms. Pamela “Pam” Barry of Gingerland is a force of community empowerment, known for her leadership in environmental cleanups, sports, and education initiatives. Mr. Addison Jeffers of Mount Lily, once a beloved postman, is celebrated for his humility and dedication, always going the extra mile in service to others. Ms. Tamara “Tammy” Farrell of Jessups Village has devoted over 30 years to festivals, cleanups, youth programmes, and grassroots leadership.

According to the department the award is also dedicated to all who: “gives of their time without hesitation, the volunteer who uplifts others through small but powerful acts of kindness, and the everyday change maker whose humility often overshadows the magnitude of their contribution. Congratulations to you all.”
