Foreign Minister Douglas affirms the federation’s Support for Regional Action on Mental Health
Foreign Minister of St. Kitts and Nevis, the Hon. Dr. Denzil Douglas, represented the federation at the 55th Meeting of the General Assembly of the Organization of American States (OAS), held from June 25th to 27th, 2025, in the neighbouring country of Antigua and Barbuda.
While there he affirmed Saint Kitts and Nevis’ support for regional action in addressing mental health specifically through the “Resolution Addressing the Critical Mental Health Crisis in the Americas” and emphasized “it is a fundamental human right and a crucial determinant, of sustainable development across the region”.
Dr. Douglas highlighted the need for collective action to address mental health challenges. He underscored some of the measures that the federal government has taken:
Dr. Denzil Douglas. He also mentioned capacity building workshops for the work force, as well as education programs targeted towards adolescents to equip them with coping strategies, life skills and discourage substance misuse and abuse, a common aggravator of mental health challenges.
