Foreign Minister Douglas enhances Bilateral Relations with the State of Kuwait

Foreign Minister, the Right Hon. Dr. Denzil Douglas recently held bilateral meetings in the State of Kuwait aiming to improve the decades’ long diplomatic relationship and garner support for the federation’s Sustainable Island State Agenda (SISA).

 

Productive discussions were held with the Kuwait Fund for Development who provides concessional loans with lower interest rates and extended payment periods which has previously provided support in the national development of water generation, airport rehabilitation and port upgrades on Nevis.

 

Further, along with Saint Kitts and Nevis High Commissioner to the United Kingdom, His Excellency, Dr. Kevin Isaac, pathways were discussed for closer collaboration in the development of renewable energy resources, such as geothermal and solar as well as invest in the water supply and strengthen food security.

 

An outcome of these meetings is the mutual decision for Saint Kitts and Nevis to have a formal diplomatic presence in Kuwait City, the capital of Kuwait, where 133 countries already have an established presence.

 

Moreover, Kuwait is an West Asian country located in the geopolitical region of the Middle East and is a small oil rich emirate.
