Former Premier of Nevis and founding member of CCM – Vance Amory dies at age 72

Former Premier of Nevis, Ambassador Vance Amory passed away on Saturday, April 2nd, 2022 at the age of 72 years (May 22nd 1949 – April 2nd 2022), following a battle with a terminal illness in the U.K.  

 

Mr. Amory served Nevis as Premier for two terms in office – between 1992 and 2006 and between 2013 and 2017. He also served as Senior Minister within the Team Unity administration (2015-2020).  

 

He was the brainchild of the Concerned Citizens Movement (CCM), which he was a founding member in 1987.  

 

While officially extending condolences to the family of Mr. Amory, “reliable friend”, PM Harris said he will be accorded a state funeral:

Meantime, Messages and statements continued to pour in following the passing of the former Premier.

 

Deputy Prime Minister and Leader of the People’s Action Movement (PAM), Hon. Shawn Richards, said of Mr. Amory: “he will be remembered for his tremendous work to advance the cause of his fellow Nevisians and the people of the federation in general.  

 

Former Prime Minister and only living National Hero, Dr. the Rt. Excellent and Rt. Hon. Sir Kennedy Simmonds mentioned “Vance Amory was a favourite and devoted son of Nevis. He earned the trust, respect and love of the people of Nevis and of St. Kitts.  His name and legacy will live on forever.” 

 

Former Prime Minister and former leader of the SKN Labour Party, The Right Dr. Honourable Denzil Douglas, intimated “it was with great shock that I learned of the death of the Honorable Vance Amory.”

 

He added: “on behalf of the SKNLP, I extend to his relatives and friends of the late Vance Amory sincere condolences.” 

 

Current Leader of the SKNLP, Dr. Terrance Drew spoke of Mr. Amory and said “our Federation has lost a treasured son and statesman.” 

 

Leader of the Nevis Reformation Party (NRP), Dr. Janice Daniel-Hodge said that she remembered  “him as a man who knew how to cope with difficulties and to find ways to be resilient and rise above challenges. My sincere condolences to his family and to the many who are saddened by his passing.
