GCF expresses commitment to ensuring SKN’s geothermal success

A high-level Green Climate Fund (GCF) delegation was welcomed to Nevis on Tuesday Mar. 18th.

 

The visit formed part of supporting Nevis’ transition to renewable energy. Premier and Minister of Energy-Nevis, the Hon. Mark Brantley, welcomed GCF’s Executive Director Mafalda Duarte and expressed his gratitude for her visit.

 

Also present were Federal Minister of Energy, the Hon. Konris Maynard, along with representatives from the Caribbean Development Bank (CDB) and the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB).

 

Moreover, GCF’s Duarte’s visit was part of the Caribbean Regional Dialogue, which was held in St. Kitts from March 17th to 20th to assess the geothermal project. Duarte expressed the commitment of GCF and its partners to ensuring the geothermal project’s success.

 

According to GCF’s website, “as the world’s largest climate fund, GCF accelerates transformative climate action in developing countries through a country-owned partnership approach and use of flexible financing solutions and climate investment expertise.”

 

SKN has secured at least US $37 million in funding for the drilling phase (US$17 million from the Caribbean Development Bank (CDB) and US$20 million from the Saudi Fund – the Development of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia).
