Government urges stronger Cybersecurity Practices during Awareness Month

The Government of St. Kitts and Nevis is urging citizens, businesses and public institutions to strengthen their cybersecurity practices during Cybersecurity Awareness Month 2026 being observed throughout October.

 

In an address, Information and Communication Technology Minister, Hon. Konris Maynard highlighted growing reliance on digital services and warned that cybercriminals are using increasingly sophisticated tactics to deceive individuals including artificial intelligence. Citizens are encouraged to take four practical steps to stay safe online:

Minister Maynard emphasized the need for continued vigilance and shared responsibility. He urged businesses to train staff, secure sensitive systems, maintain backups and test response plans.

 

Families were encouraged to help older relatives and children recognize scams and secure accounts. Maynard also advised promptly reporting compromised accounts or transactions through official channels, while the government continues strengthening national cybersecurity capacity and partnerships.
