Premier and Minister of Energy on Nevis, the Hon. Mark Brantley.

The Premier’s remarks were made during the Oct. 7th edition of the “On the Mark” show on VON Radio.

In August 2022, Premier Brantley announced that the fuel surcharge will be removed for residential customers, but for commercial customers it was capped at EC 65 cents for every kilowatt hour ($0.65/kWh).

However, in June 2026, the Nevis Electricity Company Limited (NEVLEC) reintroduced the Fuel Surcharge to its billing cycle, a few months after the commencement of the US Iran War.

It said in a press release, “due to the rising cost in fuel, a decision was made to reintroduce the Fuel Surcharge…This is intended to be a temporary measure and will be revisited once fuel prices stabilize.”
