St. Kitts and Nevis is under a high surf advisory until Saturday February 21st, according to the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA).
NEMA mentioned on social media that “moderate, long-period swells are creating hazardous conditions, particularly along our northern-facing coastlines”.
Citizens and residents can expect: dangerous waves: breaking surfs exceeding 1.8 metres or 6 feet, hazardous Seas: significant wave heights of 1.5 to 2.4 metres or 5 to 8 feet, with some reaching up to 10 feet, rip currents, coastal impacts: possible localized flooding and beach erosion during high tides.
As a consequence, the general populace is urged to exercise extreme caution: beachgoers should avoid affected northern-facing and rocky coastlines, bathe safely.
NEMA and the St. Kitts Met Office are urging everyone to stay safe as they continue to monitor these conditions.
