Individuals who have jobs are “privileged” so says Premier of Nevis

Despite the efforts made by the Federal Government and the Nevis Island Administration (NIA) and the St. Christopher and Nevis Social Security Board to alleviate the financial strains caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, many persons still need assistance to get through these difficult times. 

 

Premier Brantley, while hosting his “On the Mark” program, honoured businesses and individuals in the public, that have contributed to assist persons impacted by the virus:

Many persons affected by the pandemic include those in the hospitality sector, as well as a variety of private sector workers. 

 

According to the Department of Labour, almost 2,000 persons have applied for Severance payment as a result of losing their jobs.

 

Also, the Federal Government has injected $11 million EC into a Severance Fund, designed to aid in emergency related redundancies.
