Investigation underway into Hit-and-run incident on Nevis, one person in custody

Lawmen are investigating a possible hit-and-run incident in the area of New River, Nevis. On Saturday July 15th, around 7am, an elderly woman, Florence Ella Merchant of Hickmans, was found injured on the side of the road by a passer-by.

 

 

 

A police communiqué says Ms. Merchant was transported to the Alexandra Hospital where upon examination, she was found to have sustained a broken arm, a broken hand, and numerous cuts and bruises. She is currently in stable condition.

 

 

 

A police spokesperson told the VONNEWSLINE that “someone of interest is assisting police with the hit and run investigation”. The VONNEWSLINE contacted the police on Nevis to get more details on the matter, but were unsuccessful.

 

 

 

Elsewhere, police are investigating reports of an unidentified object that fell from the sky and landed in Conyer’s, St. Kitts, on Saturday evening July 15th, between the hours of 9PM and 11PM.

 

 

 

Upon receiving the report, the Crime Scene Unit of the Police Force investigated the scene and collected some items of evidential value. A full investigation into this matter is ongoing and the general public will be kept appropriately updated as it progresses.
