IRENA and Icelandic delegation express commit to providing assistance for geothermal project

The International Renewable Energy Agency-IRENA and an Icelandic delegation have expressed strong support for the local geothermal project and committed to providing assistance, guidance, and expertise, including training for local officials in geothermal-related fields.

 

It comes following bilateral meetings via Zoom, where Prime Minister, the Hon. Dr. Terrance Drew and the Premier of Nevis, the Hon. Dr. Mark Brantley, participated in various meetings on Thursday Mar. 13th and were facilitated by Minister of Energy-St. Kitts, the Hon. Konris Maynard and other officials in Barbados.

 

The meetings were focused on the future of geothermal energy in St. Kitts and Nevis, exploring opportunities for collaboration.

 

Present at the meetings were Director-General of IRENA (International Renewable Energy Agency) Francesco La Camera and a delegation from Iceland, including Ambassador for Climate Change, Maria Marelsdottir, Director of Green by Iceland, Nott Thorberg, and CEO of Iceland Drilling, Sveinn Hannesson.

 

The Prime Minister expressed his government’s commitment to the project and the efforts with the Nevis Island Administration (NIA) to make the project a reality.
