Joint operation by lawmen yields 12th illegal firearm seized for 2024

Officers from Royal St. Christopher and Nevis Police Force (RSCNPF) from the Special Services Unit (SSU), and soldiers from the St. Kitts – Nevis Defence Force (SKNDF), seized a high-powered firearm and ammunition in Newtown, St. Kitts.

 

Between 12 noon and 12:30 PM on Tuesday Nov. 12th, lawmen carried out a search of an abandoned building as part of an ongoing effort to enhance public safety and reduce illegal firearms in the community.

A press release from the Police Force says “during the operation, an AK-47 assault rifle, accompanied by two (2) magazines and thirty-three (33) rounds of 7.62mm ammunition, was recovered. The contraband has since been taken into police custody.”

 

Thus far, no arrests have been made in connection with the contraband recovery at this time. This latest seizure took the number of illegal firearms taken off of our streets to 12, so far for 2024.

 

Back in October, police seized (1) Sam-7K semi-automatic pistol, and one (1) magazine and sixteen (16) rounds of 7.62 x 39mm ammunition, in the area of Nisbett Settlement, Newcastle, Nevis.
