Kenya’s Ambassador to Cuba and High Commissioner to St. Kitts and Nevis, Mwenda Karisa, has commended the Kenyan community living in the Federation for their resilience, hard work and entrepreneurial spirit.
The remarks were made during a dinner held at Afri-Caribe Grill at the Rams Food Court-Nevis, on Thursday February 26th, hosted by Kenyan entrepreneur Carolyne “Karo” Johnson. Her restaurant has been introducing authentic Kenyan cuisine to residents and visitors, offering dishes such as ugali, nyamachoma, Sukuma wiki, samosas and chapati.
Ambassador Karisa noted that wherever they settle around the world, Kenyans are known for determination and enterprise, adding that the local diaspora reflects that same spirit. She described food as a meaningful bridge between cultures, helping to strengthen understanding and connection between nations.
The diplomat also revealed that formal diplomatic relations between Kenya and St. Kitts and Nevis have been initiated, with discussions underway toward a Memorandum of Understanding on trade. Such an agreement, she said, would encourage business development and expand economic collaboration.
She further pointed to the shared African heritage of both nations as a natural foundation for deeper cooperation.
