Elston Nero also known as “King Ellie Matt” MH, CSM received a formal state funeral (today) Thursday, June 11^th, 2026 in St. Kitts.

The funeral service held at the Newtown Playing Field. Opening tributes commenced at 12 noon, while the  main service began at 1:00 P.M.

A formal state funeral is an event typically reserved for individuals of profound national importance or who have made significant contributions to the nation.

King Ellie Matt passed away at age 73 in the United States on Sunday, April 26^th, 2026.

The 10-time National Calypso King and seven-time Road March winner will be remembered for his hit songs, electrifying performances and creativity. He was a singer, songwriter, arranger, band-leader and was the founder of the legendary ‘Ellie Matt and the GI’s Brass’.

Some of his greatest hits include: Makazemma, I Love St. Kitts, Kittitian Jamboree, Shang Shang and Sugar City Jam.
