Labour Day on May 1st in St. Kitts & Nevis

Labour Day in currently being celebrated in St. Kitts and Nevis (today) Monday May 1st. Labour Day is a public holiday and is observed on the first Monday in May. This holiday is held in honour of the contribution of workers to the country.

 

 

 

Celebrating the efforts and achievements of workers has been observed at the start of May, since the beginning of the 20th century. Usually, particularly in St. Kitts, there is a march in the streets of Basseterre and ensuing activities in the evening.

 

 

 

The Day is also synonymous with, or linked with, International Workers’ Day, which occurs on May 1st. For other countries, Labour Day is celebrated on a different date, often one with special significance for the labour movement in that country. Labour Day is a public holiday in many countries.

 

 

 

Still in the National news- Minister of Sustainable Development, the Hon. Dr. Joyelle Clarke, is representing St. Kitts and Nevis at the Sixth Meeting of the Forum of the Countries of Latin America and the Caribbean on Sustainable Development being held in Santiago, Chile.
