Leaders in St. Kitts and Nevis are calling for stronger water conservation and gender equity as the federation observed World Water Day 2026, on March 22nd under the theme: “Water and Gender”.

It was underscored that changes in rain patterns and other climate factors impact water sustainability, threatening a vital resource. Recent investments were highlighted but it was stressed that infrastructure alone is not enough. Minister responsible for water services-St. Kitts, the Hon Konris Maynard, made this statement:

A key part of the messages highlighted the global burden on women and girls in accessing water and linked reliable supply to greater equality and opportunity. In St. Kitts and Nevis, women may not walk miles for water, but their role in homes, communities must not be overlooked. They manage households, care for families, and when water is inconsistent, they adapt to keep life functioning.

Nevis’ Minister responsible for water services, the Hon. Spencer Brand spoke on the matter.
