Man charged with murder, takes SKN murder toll to 15th for 2024

33-year-old Akeem Whyte, a resident of Taylor’s Housing, St. Kitts, has been formally charged for the offence of Murder in connection with the death of James Morton, aged thirty-one (31), from Lower Monkey Hill, St. Peter’s.

 

 

 

This is linked to a tragic traffic incident that took place on Tuesday June 18th on George Street in Newtown. Preliminary investigations revealed that Mr. Morton was struck by a vehicle while he was on George Street.

 

 

 

Following the incident, he was rushed to the Joseph N. France General Hospital by Emergency Medical Services (EMS) with severe head injuries where he was warded at the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) in critical condition. Morton succumbed to his injuries on Wednesday June 19th.

 

 

 

At the scene of the accident, the driver of the vehicle involved was apprehended by law enforcement. Mr. Whyte was charged on Friday June 21st at the Basseterre Police Station.

 

 

 

Considering the abovementioned, police told the VONNEWSLINE that this latest incident, took SKN’s murder toll for 2024, to 15.
