MOE -Nevis issues adjusted school hair guidelines

Nevis’s Ministry of Education (MOE) has issued adjusted school hair guidelines for all public schools. In a post on social media, the ministry said, “the rules apply to all pre, primary and secondary public schools on Nevis, effective September 2025.”

General Guidelines: All students should maintain neat and clean hair at all times. Traditional hairstyles, such as locs, afros, cornrows, and single plaits/twists are permitted for both male and female students.

For the males: Hair should be neat and well groomed. This means:

  • Short haircuts should NOT be longer than two (2) inches in length and should be properly combed. Designs are NOT allowed. If hair is longer than 2 inches, it should be loc’d, worn in cornrows or single plaits/twists. Ponytails or buns with loose hair will NOT be permitted. Facial hair must be groomed and kept low. Extensions or accessories should NOT be added.

For the females: Extensions are permitted for female students ONLY. These should NOT be longer than shoulder length and must mimic the student’s natural hair colour and texture.

  1. Wigs or weaves are NOT allowed. However, in the case of documented medical conditions (cancer, lupus, scalp infections, alopecia, etc.) that cause hair loss, may be permitted, but should NOT exceed shoulder length. For more details on the guidelines, call 869 469 5521 ext. 5080.
