The Ministry of Health (MOH) St. Kitts and Nevis issued a public health advisory about the respiratory illness activity in the Federation.
MOH said it “is actively monitoring respiratory illness activity during the current 2025-2026 influenza season and wishes to keep the public informed. While there has been an increase in persons presenting with fever and respiratory symptoms, the majority of cases are mild and are being effectively managed within the health system.”
According to the MOH, some persons have been diagnosed with respiratory tract infections caused by influenza (flu) and respiratory syncytial virus (RSV).
Common symptoms include fever, sore throat, body and joint aches. The most vulnerable groups include adults over 65 years of age, children under 5 years, pregnant women, and persons with underlying chronic health conditions such as asthma, diabetes, heart disease. Anyone experiencing severe symptoms such as difficulty breathing, should seek medical attention immediately.
The following are steps to help alleviate the spread of the Influenza and RSV: practice hand hygiene, practice – respiratory etiquette -cover your mouth and nose when coughing or sneezing or wear a face mask and stay home if you are unwell.
