MOH makes Statement Following Recent Ambulance Collision

On January 2nd 2025, around 11:15p.m., a serious vehicular collision occurred at Palmetto Point, St. Kitts, involving an ambulance that was transporting a patient, and oncoming traffic. It resulted in the injury of five persons, who were treated at the JNF General Hospital. Three persons remain in medical care, while two have since been discharged.

In a statement, the Ministry of Health addressed concerns about road users lack of respect for Emergency Medical Services (EMS).

They urge the general public’s adherence to the proper protocols, involving EMS, to ensure the safe passage of emergency vehicles, and prevent future incidents:

  • Remain alert on the road, listens for sirens, and observe flashing lights.

  • Yield the right of way allowing ambulances and other EMS vehicles to pass by safely pulling off to the roadside.

  • Do not tailgate, never follow closely behind an ambulance or overtake it

  • Always obey traffic signals, even if an ambulance goes against a traffic signal, always yield as required.
