The 2024 recipient of the John E. Howell Memorial Scholarship is Mr. Jaylen Amory, a student at the Nevis Sixth Form College. Mr. Amory received a cheque of EC $3000 presented by the grandchild and great grandchild of the late John E. Howell, Ras ‘Binghi’ Parris and Patrick Howell respectively.

The late John E. Howell, known as a businessman and a cricketer, was born in the year 1902 and passed in 1990. He was highly recognized as “one of the builders of Modern Nevis”, widely renowned as the “Godfather of Nevis Cricket” and was also known as “Cap’n Howell”. He is known to be the longest serving Nevisian cricket captain ever, from 1939 to 1951.
The John E. Howell Memorial Scholarship is intended to positively impact the life of its recipients. This is the second time the scholarship has been awarded, it was first awarded to Ms. Imogen Archibald in 2023.
