MultiPurpose facility officially opens in Gingerland and named after Cultural Icon

One the eve of Thursday 29th November the community of Gingerland and the entire general public, witnessed the Grand Opening of a multi-purpose facility at Market Shop, Gingerland.

The Nevis Island Administration (NIA) saw it in the best interest of the community and island, to name the facility in honour of one of Nevis’ late fifer, cultural icon and Gingerlander, Mr. David Freeman.

The structure has been named the David Freeman Center of Excellence and will be available for use by the community.

A sign was unveiled with the face of late fifer above the entrance of the structure.

The VONNEWSLINE spoke to Minister of Culture and area representative in the NIA and chairman of the Gingerama Festival Committee the Hon. Eric Evelyn following the official opening of the facility, who expressed to us his elation.

We also spoke to former Premier of Nevis, former area representative and Senior Minister in the Federal Government the Hon. Vance Amory whose vision it was to have such a facility in the area.

Minister Amory also explained that with the facility now completed and functioning, activities on the island can now be more diverse.
