National Delegation Visited Taiwan to Gain Insights into Improving Mental Healthcare Delivery

 

Two health officials of St. Kitts and Nevis visited the Republic of China (Taiwan), from February 6th to February 14th, to gain knowledge about the delivery of mental healthcare services in the Taiwanese Healthcare System.

 

The national delegation was made up of Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Health – Nevis, Shelisa Martin-Clarke, and Consultant Oncologist, of the Joseph N. France General Hospital, in St. Kitts, Dr. Merisa Grant-Tate.

 

The Republic of China (Taiwan) is highly reputed for its advanced mental health policies and practices in patient care and rehabilitation. The pair engaged with key stakeholders providing useful opportunities to explore and learn about the best approaches to mental healthcare, community-based interventions, and integrated healthcare models.

 

This visit forms part of the National Mental Health Service System Enhancement Project. It was launched on November 27th, 2024, and is a collaboration between the Ministry of Health of St. Kitts and Nevis, and the Taiwan International Cooperation and Development Fund (ICDF).

It is a 3-year program, projected to conclude in July 2027, and aims to improve the delivery of mental healthcare, further the knowledge along with the expertise of mental health professionals and further enhance policy creation in the federation.
