The Nevis Co-operative Credit Union has renamed its long-standing Scholarship Programme in honour of former General Manager, Mr. George Sydney Newton. The announcement was made at the Credit Union’s 52^nd Annual General Meeting, held on August 28^th at the Nevis Performing Arts Centre (NEPAC).

The scholarship will now be known as the George Sydney Newton Scholarship Award, recognizing Mr. Newton’s 30 years of dedicated leadership before his retirement earlier this year.

Since its launch in 1986, the programme has assisted nearly 80 students across Nevis and St. Kitts, covering textbooks, uniforms and exam fees. The first cohort under the new name will be honoured during International Credit Union Week this October.

Regional and international credit union leaders also paid tribute to Mr. Newton’s impact on the cooperative movement, praising his work in guiding the NCCU through challenges while ensuring sustainable growth.
