Nevis Disaster Management Department (NDMD) continues its awareness campaign of natural disasters for the year.
May has been designated as “Drought Awareness Month”. Drought occurs when there is not enough rainfall, causing water levels to drop. This can increase the risk of other hazards such as wildfires, flash floods, and even landslides or debris flows.

The disaster department mentioned on social media “Stay tuned throughout the month for helpful drought tips”, while in a safety message on its Facebook page, the Department said “we can’t make it rain, but we can all use less water.”
