World Cancer Day recognized in Nevis

Nevis along with the rest of the world celebrated World Cancer Day. The day is celebrated annually on February 4th.

 

 

 

World Cancer Day is an initiative of the Union for International Cancer Control (UICC) created to raise awareness of the disease and to reduce the global Cancer burden, promote greater equity and integrate cancer control into the world health and development agenda.

 

 

 

The annually recognized day is also used as a medium to educate persons around the world and strengthen actions aimed to improve access to quality care, including screening, early detection, treatment and palliative care. The theme for this year is “Close the care Gap: Uniting our voices and taking action”.

 

 

 

On Friday, the Health Promotion Unit on Nevis invited the general public to wear a colour of choice in recognition of a type of Cancer. For example: pink for Breast Cancer, dark blue for Colon Cancer, green which represents Gallbladder Cancer, Teal for Ovarian, Emerald for Liver Cancer, the colour grey signifies Brain Cancer, white for Lung Cancer, Orange for Leukemia and Kidney Cancer and many more that are too numerous to mention
