Nevis Drilling Fourth Well as Water Enhancement Project Progresses
Nevis Drilling Fourth Well as Water Enhancement Project Progresses
The Nevis Island Administration’s (NIA) Water Enhancement Project is moving ahead, with drilling now underway at Brazier’s in St. John’s. This marks the fourth well in the island’s plan to boost water security.
The Trinidad based Water and Oil Well Services (WOWS) Company resumed drilling after operations at the previous site in Dasents Estate were paused due to a stuck drill bit. Premier the Hon. Mark Brantley said the team will return to that location once Braziers is completed.
As of June 25th, the well at Braziers had reached 225 feet, with a target of 550 feet.
Minister of with responsibility for water services, the Hon. Spencer Brand, expressed optimism about the new site and confirmed that the first two wells of Maddens were successful. Those wells are already adding 600,000 gallons of potable water daily to the island’s supply.
A temporary generator is powering the pumps for now, discussions are ongoing with NEVLEC for a permanent solution.
Nine wells in total are planned under the enhancement project, which also includes improving storage and upgrading the water distribution network. The project represents a major investment in securing Nevis’s long term water needs.
