As preparations continue for the hurricane season, the Nevis Disaster Management Department (NDMD) has released its list of Public Emergency Shelters that will be in operation during the 2026 Atlantic Hurricane Season.
These facilities are intended to provide safe, temporary housing for individuals whose homes may be compromised before or during a storm, such as a hurricane.
There are a total of eight (8) Emergency Shelters, they are as follows:
St. Paul’s Parish – the Girls Guides Headquarters.
St. John’s Parish – the Pond Hill Community Centre.
St. Georges Parish – the Ebenezer Church of God and Charles Walters Community Centre (Hanley’s Road).
St. James Parish – Franklyn Browne Community Centre.
St. Thomas’ Parish – Cotton Ground, Barnes Ghaut and Jessup’s Community Centres.
The department is also encouraging everyone to be their brother’s keeper, offer refuge to family, friends, and neighbors whose homes may become unsafe in the event of an approaching storm.
