The achievements of seven women were celebrated during International Women’s Month 2026, under the theme: “Rights. Justice. Action. For All Women and Girls.”
The Department of Gender Affairs on Nevis hosted a ceremony on March 28th at the Malcolm Guishard Recreational Park. In attendance were Deputy Governor General, Her Honour, Mrs. Hyleeta Liburd, Minister of Gender Affairs, Hon. Jahnel Nisbett, and other Members of the Nevis Island Administration Cabinet.
The awards highlighted traditional practice and transformation across sectors. Honourees included Mrs. Jackie Hunkins-Taylor in the Legal Sector; Ms. Sharmyn Powell was recognized in Finance; Mrs. Valary Hendrickson for her work in Agro-processing; and Ms. Noellissa Swaby for her contributions to the Circular Economy.
Ms. Dianne Hobson received the Art and Culture Award, while Ms. Thema Ward earned the Tricia Greaux Ocean Governance Award. The Minister’s Award went to Ms. Leander Cornelius.
