As we look forward to Culturama annually and learn more about the history of the festival, Ms. Irma Johnson who is dubbed “The Mother of Culturama” was recently honoured with an MBE (Member of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire) Award.

The award is given to individuals who have made a positive impact in their country or line of work. Being recognised with this award can be beneficial in raising awareness and for one’s personal sense of achievement.

Irma is a founding member of the Nevis Drama Group which later transitioned to NEDACS, the organization that founded CULTURAMA. Irma played a pivotal role in establishing the festival in 1974.

Ms. Johnson who is currently in the United Kingdom, told the VON NEWSLINE that she is grateful for receiving such an auspicious award.
