The Nevis Island Administration is set to commence operation of a Broiler Preparation Facility in the near future.
The breakdown of chickens for consumption will be available on a larger scale to local farmers. According to Premier of Nevis, Hon. Dr. Mark Brantley, the initiative was started by the previous Minister of Agriculture in the NIA, Hon. Alexis Jeffers, in an effort to promote food security in the island and reduce the food import bill on poultry.
Minister Brantley also said the facility will be a major help to farmers as they can increase their poultry numbers and partner with the NIA for the slaughtering of the birds:
